“An early autumn night’s dream” - there’s no better way to capture the essence of the Asia Lover Festival Gala Dinner organized by my beautiful friend Cristina Massaro, which unfolded beneath a dazzling canopy of lights in Lecce. It was an evening where the artistic worlds of Asia and Italy intertwined in a stunning celebration of film, culture, and creativity.

Held in the enchanting XII century Monastero degli Olivetani, the venue was transformed into a magical setting, illuminated by intricate light installations known as luminarie, which added to the vibrant ambiance. Even an unexpected downpour only enhanced the evening’s charm, as guests welcomed the shimmering rain, embracing it with laughter and shared stories.

The night began with a captivating photographic session by renowned photographer Sakis Lalas, who beautifully captured the elegance and joy of attendees, including celebrated figures and artists from across Asia and Italy, such as Kundo Koyama, the Japanese screenwriter of the movie Departures, Oscar-winning for best foreign language film in 2009. Lalas' images, which embody the night’s unique spirit, will soon be showcased in an exclusive exhibition in Japan.

Following a mesmerising dance performance, guests gathered beneath the arches of the monastery for an exquisite candlelit dinner, where refined Italian haute cuisine dishes were paired with fine wines and expertly crafted cocktails.

As dinner drew to a close, a dynamic DJ set infused the air with beats from Italy and around the world, beckoning everyone to the dance floor. Guests danced under a star-filled sky that emerged after the rain, adding a touch of magic to the enchanting evening.

Though it felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience, for Lecce – a city renowned for its stunning baroque architecture, vibrant culture, and lively international social scene – this was just an average night.
